Custom Introductions

What is this?

This is a project to help people in Madison, WI meet other people with similar interests and compatible personalities. It's not an app, it's a human-to-human project based on real life, face-to-face interactions.

One thing that I've heard from lots and lots of people is that it's hard to meet people and make friends once you're older than college-aged. I've lived in Madison for over 20 years, and I know thousands of people here. I know lots of people who do lots of activities, including (but not limited to): bike rides, board games, tastings, concerts, art gallery events, bowling leagues, short road trips, Badger games, and various types of volunteering, as well as some very specific hobbies and some very general social events.

So what do I do? I match up people with other people who are likely to get along together. I was a bartender for over a decade, I have a pretty good idea of who people will get along with. For a small fee, I will match you up with other people who I have also personally met and talked to.

How does it work?

Send me an email, and we'll meet somewhere public, like a coffee shop or a bar. We'll talk for a few minutes about what your interests are, and what you're looking for. I'll take some notes, and later I'll introduce you to groups of people who you're likely to get along with.

You don't pay anything until you accept an invitation to an event or a get-together. I'll introduce everyone, using first name or nickname only, but also a basic contact method (probably email, or maybe a phone number). For some events, I will be present at the first meeting and will personally introduce everyone.

You can continue to meet with whoever you want without paying anything else. It's up to you at that point.

What about privacy and security?

Bring a government-issued photo ID when we meet, and I'll jot down your name and date of birth. When I'm introducing you to others, I'll include just your first name (or preferred name) and the email address or phone number you gave me. Aside from that, you decide what you share. My records will be kept in paper form in a secure location. I will comply with legally binding requests such as subpoenas, but otherwise will not be disclosing your personal info to anyone.
